Pack Rip - Some More 1978-79 Topps Hockey
A couple of weeks ago I picked up 17 packs of 1978-79 Topps hockey. Here's the second pack:
PIM leaders get no recognition in the hobby these days.
Pretty impressive lineup right there, three Hall-of-Famers on one card (four I guess if you consider that Bob Bourne is in the Islanders Hall-of-Fame)...
This photo looks like it's from a dream, that's some heavy airbrushing right there.
After his hockey career came to a close, Gillis began work as a stuntman in films. He's actually worked on a couple of movies that I enjoyed, including The Fountain and Secret Window.
Often overshadowed and under-appreciated, Tkaczuk was among the best defensive forwards of his day.
Sweet, I hope this is a good sign. With any luck, after this evening the Bruins will be headed to their first Stanley Cup final since 1990!
If the Thrashers move to Winnipeg, will Ramsay remain the head coach?
I couldn't pick a better pack to post on the day of Game 6 than this one! Let's go Bruins!!!
Very nice! It's not every day that you get to pull a rookie card of a Hall-of-Famer from a pack of cards from the 1970's. I only had the 2001-02 Topps Archives version previously, it's nice to have the real thing in the collection.
Back to back members of the Hall. Not a bad way to wind down the pack if you ask me. This pack's "card whose back is wax stained" award goes to...
Nothing against Dave here, but I'm glad his card was stained rather than the Federko rookie or the Salming.
That's a wrap. Don't worry, I won't bore you with all 17 of these packs, but I do plan to show off at least one more.
Great hit on the Federko! That is also a Ron Duguay rookie too.
ReplyDeleteThis post made me sad! Hurricane Ike a couple years ago, dropped a tree on my garage roof, which made a big hole, which let in a ton of water, all of which landed right on top of my hockey cards... They all dried out OK, but they are wrinkled up like potato chips. I still love them regardless :)
ReplyDeletenice pack. I love the old Ranger uni's... and I don't know how much '78/79 OPC you have.... but when you compare them to the Topps version, cards like the Salming are a lot different. OPC has all star cards, so on the base cards they removed the "1st Team All Star" form the top, leaving a big empty white space. It looks odd. I could never figure out why a lot of my cards were like that until the internet cam along and showed me the topps version.
ReplyDeleteNo problem. I could read posts of every pack you open, not boring at all
ReplyDeleteWhat a great pack!
ReplyDeleteFor me, the PIM Leader card is the best pull, but the Federko rookie ain't too shabby either :)
Like Tony, I would love to see all 17 busted on here....Could be a lot of scanning, maybe you would want to do a video?
ReplyDeleteOh man, that Burrows card - OPC has the guy that went the other way in that deal: a "now with Penguins" card of future Norris winner Randy Carlyle.
ReplyDeleteNice cards! Love that set.
Congratulations on the Federko rookie... what an amazing addition to any hockey PC.
