Not much time today, so here's a quick post to knock off the next item on the 2011 Top 20 Under $25 countdown...
What is it? A 1952 Bowman Walt Masterson, graded EX-MT 6 by PSA
When and where did I get it? May 2nd, once again on eBay
How much did it cost me? $20.00 (plus $3.00 shipping and handling)
Walt Masterson wasn't exactly a stellar pitcher, but I didn't purchase this card because of its subject's career. I purchased it because it's one of my favorite cards from 1952 Bowman, which (as I've stated many times) is one of my favorite vintage baseball sets. Here's a better look at the front:
As a Red Sox fan, this is pretty close to vintage perfection. I love the smaller size and simplistic design of the '52 Bowmans. The minimal design makes it all about the picture, which on this card includes everything...an old school Sox jersey, a cloudy sky, those funny looking, tinted glasses, and a uni-brow that would give Wally Moon a run for his money.
My copy of the card comes with some bonus gum/wax stains on the back too!
I'm off to see the new Winnipeg Jets franchise take on the Bruins this evening, hopefully some regular posting will resume tomorrow...

When it comes to blogging... my timing is terrible. I'll see things on ESPN
or on other blogs that inspire a post, but I don't have scans ready to go.

What a beautiful card... congratulations on the great purchase!
Love the stains as you know and lets face it. Any card graded that high from that era is a steal at that price. Add in the fact he was a two-time all-star makes it a smart buy!
I like '52 Bowman as well. It's a really nice set and reminds me of '52-53 Parkhurst. Very nice card for the price!
