Milt Schmidt * 1918 - 2017
This week the hockey world lost one of it's real good guys, as HOFer Milt Schmidt passed away at 98 years old on Wednesday. Milt was the oldest living former NHL player at the time of his passing, and he left a mark on the game, and particularly the Boston Bruins franchise, that will never be forgotten.
I was fortunate enough to meet Milt back in 2010, and put up a post here on the blog shortly afterward summarized his amazing life and career. For today, I'll keep it short, but I did want to take this opportunity to show some of my favorite Schmidt cards as a tribute to Milt, beginning with the '54-55 Parkhurst issue you see above. I'll spare any commentary from here on out, and let the cards do the talking instead...

That's a super Milt collection. The Bruins truly lost an icon
ReplyDeleteNever had the pleasure of watching him play, but I definitely recognize the name. Now I just need to do a little homework and read up on his legacy.
ReplyDeleteFantastic collection of Schmidt cards Shane. Let's hope 2017 will be easy on the NHL old-timers.
ReplyDeleteYour Schmidt collection is amazing. Love that sweater. He was a class act. There's a great documentary on youtube about him and can be found here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2m7-HtwbnSo&t=384s
