Classic Cards - 1993 Upper Deck Tim Wakefield

Another great card from the 1993 Upper Deck set that I stumbled across only recently. I love the shot of a young Tim in the midst of throwing his infamous pitch, with the out-of-focus Pirates outfielder and Wrigley ivy in the background.

Who would've thought that Wakefield would still be around 17 years later! This guy was drafted as a position player. He only developed the knuckler and attempted pitching when he came to the realization that he would never make a major league roster playing the field. Fast forward to 2010 and he's still chugging away, in fact he is now 3rd all time in wins for the Red Sox, behind only Cy Young and Roger Clemens!

Classic Cards - 1993 Upper Deck Mike Stanton

Not a lot of time today, hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day weekend. Since there's been a heavy dose of vintage lately I figured why not post about a card that's not so old. 1993 Upper Deck is easily one of the top ten post-1990 sets in my opinion, one that is shared by most collectors.

I was scanning through a stack the other day and noticed this Mike Stanton card was particularly cool. In case you didn't look closely or click the picture to see the full size scan, the sign says "I [heart] the Braves, especially Mike Stanton". Nice shot Upper Deck!

Classic Cards - 1991-92 Upper Deck Pavel Bure

I'd like to update my blog a bit more frequently, but some days I just don't have a whole lot to say. What I do have are thousands and thousands of scans of cards from my collection. On days when there isn't much going on, or I don't have a whole lot of time, I will post a "classic card" from my collection. I'll post cards for a variety of reasons but generally they will be cards that I think just stand out from the rest. You know, the ones where you stop and pause as you're flipping through a stack...

1991-92 Upper Deck - #54 - Pavel Bure - Vancouver Canucks - First up we have Pavel Bure's card from the 1991-92 Upper Deck hockey set. This card is so cheesy, but I remember being thrilled when I got it back in the day. The Russian Rocket was one of the most exciting players in the NHL to watch in his heyday. I guess this is how he trained...
