I know at least one other blogger, Dave H of Wax Stain Rookie, will appreciate this Sunday's autograph card. Surprise, surprise, it's from 2012-13 Panini Classics Signatures...Hall-of-Famer Alex Delvecchio:
Alex is the seventh Hall-of-Famer whose autograph I've been able to pick up from this set. Again, the price was just too good to pass up at a hair over $7 plus a couple bucks for shipping. Alex is one of the all-time Red Wings greats, and one of the best players in hockey history, period. He joins Steve Yzerman and Nick Lidstrom as the only players to appear in 1,500+ games yet play for only one franchise. Interesting that all three were with Detroit.
Delvecchio played a part in bringing 3 Stanley Cups to Detroit, including one is his very first season with the club ('51-52). He would also win the Lady Byng Trophy three times. When Alex retired from the game he was second all-time in quite a few major statistical categories, including assists and points.
I'm not sure why hockey autos of retired players don't seem to get as much collector love as their baseball counterparts. This is sort of the equivalent of getting a Willie Mays or Carl Yastrzemski hard-signed auto shipped to your door for less than $10. I really love this set, without a doubt my favorite hockey release of 2012-13.
Alex Delvecchio brings my running total of 2012-13 Classics Signatures autos to 44...

What better way to celebrate your 1000th game than a custom jersey for the
warm-up?
Other than actually being allowed to wear it during the game.

Alex has a beautiful signature. Not too surprising about the love. Hockey is the least popular of the major sports here. Not knocking hockey, it's hot in Chicago of late and I'd probably pick a Hawks game over the Cubs or Bulls.
Thanks Hackenbush. I guess I'm spoiled by living in Boston where it's right up there with baseball and football. Oh well, cheaper autographs for me!
Ahhh, I knew it was only a matter of time when this gem would turn into a post. I love the later career photo they used and the Northland stick with only two wraps of tape on it. Great auto and great card, well done my friend.
