I've always enjoyed card blogs where the author, through keen observation and good old fashioned detective work, is able to determine exactly what moment in time the photograph on the card is showing. Never took a crack at one myself, due to a combination of not enough time/too lazy, but at last week's card show I picked up a card that was too easy to pass up.
This Upper Deck Exclusives parallel of Islanders winger Kyle Okposo was in a fifty cent discount bin, believe it or not!
It isn't too difficult to see how I cracked this one. Being from the 2011-12 set, I knew the photo was likely from the previous 2010-11 season. It's obviously a home game, based on the dark sweaters and those Islanders banners up in the rafters in the background. It occurred before March 8th, 2011, because the ad on the bottom of the scoreboard says to check out the Isles/Leafs on that date.
Thanks to the wonderful resource that is hockey-reference.com, it took all of 2 minutes to find out that this photo was taken following a 5-1 home victory over the Florida Panthers on February 21, 2011. The 37 shots for the Islanders that is clearly visible on the scoreboard matches up as well.
What did we do before the internet?

What better way to celebrate your 1000th game than a custom jersey for the
warm-up?
Other than actually being allowed to wear it during the game.

Watched more TV?
Speaking for myself, at least in high school... I got REALLY familiar with how to work the microfiche reader in the school library.
...And, as Hackenbush said, watched more TV... an awful LOT of TV.
Oh, and after walking away from the NHL 10+ years ago, I have no idea of who Kyle Okposo is, but he's wearing an Islanders jersey so... BOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
You gotta come back to the NHL Joe! Especially the post-season, in my very biased opinion the Stanley Cup playoffs are the best thing in all of sports, period.
Nice card. 50 cents?! How do you beat that. Great detective work.
