Collecting Public Service Announcement - Always Double Check for Mustaches

Today I have an important message to bring you regarding the dangers of shopping on COMC from your couch while half awake at 11pm.  Always, always double check the detailed scans of the card you're buying, especially vintage.  Otherwise, like me, you could think you got a steal, only to have this arrive in your mailbox:

Yeah, that's right, I completely missed Irv Noren's hand-drawn mustache and goatee when I grabbed this one a few weeks ago.  I've learned first hand the painful lesson of the hidden mustache.

I hope that maybe a few of you can learn from my mistake.  If I save just one person from accidentally purchasing a card with a hand drawn mustache then it was all worth it.  With all of that being said, these "after market modifications" aren't enough to keep Irv from his spot in the binder with his '59 Topps pals!

I say make it an even longer moustache - Halloween is coming up, have Irv go dressed as Salvador Dali!

I had to look Irv Noren up. Interesting trivia -- Wikipedia says he played pro basketball for the Chicago American Gears in 1946-47.

Yep I've done that before. I try to avoid them as well. What frustrates me is when buying stuff on sportlots from the stores where you can't see the cards at all. You can get almost anything sent to you if you buy a card that is less than Excellent condition. Especially stuff on the back they don't mention.

Any of us who collect vintage have found something like that. I once bought a 1970-71 Topps basketball card where somebody had colored in the whites of his eyes with a blue pen. To make matters worse, this was an in-person purchase, I just didn't notice!
