Red Sox Collection - Carlos Asuaje's Scribble

I'm watching the Red Sox get crushed at the hands of the Orioles tonight.  It's getting so painful these past few weeks that I've asked myself more than once why I continue to watch, yet I keep tuning in.  Since the Major League team is so bad, let's take a look at a minor league card this evening...

This is a 2013 Panini Elite Extra Edition Aspirations Die-Cut Autograph, numbered to 100.  If that last sentence isn't a sign that the number of sets and parallels in this hobby is getting out of hand, I'm not sure what is.  I don't keep up with modern releases, but the strange thing is I can't find any evidence that there was a regular old 2013 Panini Elite set, so I'm not sure why this is dubbed "Extra Edition".

The sad thing about this busy excuse for a card is that it was somebody's "hit" in a mid-range product (still around $90/box even a year later).  My copy came in a lot of a few minor league cards I won on eBay recently, and set me back less than $1.

A quick check on Carlos' career shows that he put up very solid numbers in A ball this season.  I would imagine he's slated to advance to AA next year.  Still just 22 years old so we'll see I guess, but we all know the odds.  Right now he's ranked as the 39th overall prospect in Boston's farm system.

Regardless of whether Carlos Asuaje ever makes the show or not, I'll pick up a new Red Sox autograph for under a buck just about any time.  Besides, it gave me a quick and easy blog post and distracted me from the game (and the 2014 season!) for a few minutes.  Well worth the low price of admission for that alone...

Asuaje had a great season! He was voted the Greenville Drive player of the year by the fans. Nice card!
