I've been picking up steam lately with my 1953 Topps project, so let's keep the momentum going with another addition to my set...
Today we're looking at card #84, Bob Hooper of the Cleveland Indians. Hooper did not enjoy a very lengthy MLB career, with his first game coming in 1950 and his final being in 1955. He was actually born in Ontario, Canada but attending school in New Jersey.
The main reason that I chose to feature Bob's card today though is that he's a United States veteran, having served in the US Army Air Forces during World War II. I've always admired and been amazed by the number of athletes from Bob's generation that stepped up when their country, and the world, needed them. On this Veteran's Day I'd like to take a moment to thank Bob and all of the other vets around the world who risk/risked so much to serve their country.

A PSA 6 Mantle sold for 1500 on ebay, that's a pretty good deal, hope it was you!

Thanks for the heads up Brad! I was watching that auction, as I watch every Mantle PSA 6 that sells on eBay. That's one of the lowest prices I've ever recorded but it was not me, time's not right. Had that card gone for that price in say February or March I would probably have jumped on it. Oh well, the waiting continues!
